The University of Padua Department of Sociology, Pedagogy and Applied Psychology organized the IQLA-GIAT Summer School in Quantitative Analysis of Textual Data this September. The summer school focused on current methods of quantitative text analysis and text-based applications of artificial intelligence.

Palkó Gábor

At the invitation of the main organizer, Arjuna Tuzzi, Gábor Palkó, head of the DH Lab, participated as a lecturer. He delivered two 90-minute courses to an international audience of eighteen PhD students and researchers.

  • The first lecture provided an overview of the history of artificial intelligence, from its beginnings to the emergence of transformer technologies.
  • The second, practice-oriented seminar introduced participants to the concrete applications of AI technologies. Colab notebook scripts were made available, enabling students to test the methods in practice immediately.

During the summer school, further professional discussions also took place, including the possibility of a joint publication with colleagues from the organizing department. Based on the experience, the prepared teaching material could even serve as the foundation for a full semester-long university course.
