How can poems be created from computer codes? What happens when we entrust poetry writing to algorithms? What is digital literature and how can a computer code become a poetic tool? Our program introduces interested parties to the world of generative poetry, where creative works are brought to life jointly by authors and machines.

During the presentation, we also peek under the “hood” of the generated poems: through some representative works of digital poetry, we will reveal what rules, structures and codes can operate digital combinatorial poetry, and whether it is really true that each line is unique and unrepeatable.

In her presentation titled Code and Poetry – Poetry in the Age of Algorithms, our colleague, Dorottya Henrietta Szemigán, examines the cultural-technological and art-historical contexts of digital literature, with a special focus on generative and combinatorial poetry in the Hungarian language.
