From October 28 to 30, the Millenáris D Building will once again become the home of discovery and innovation as the Science Expo opens its doors. This year, the National Laboratory for Digital Heritage (NLDH) will showcase how cutting-edge technologies bring culture, language, and science closer to everyone through interactive demonstrations.

At the joint booth of the National Laboratory for Digital Heritage and ELTE’s Department of Artificial Intelligence, visitors can explore how artificial intelligence supports the preservation, analysis, and dissemination of Hungarian language and cultural heritage.

The long-standing scientific and educational collaboration between the two institutions has already produced numerous innovative results – several of which will be on display at the Expo.

Among the highlights is the largest Hungarian language training corpus, containing 65 million documents and 41.5 billion words. Visitors can also meet the RAG-based chatbot developed for the MTA200 exhibition, which converses about the history of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in the voice of actor Pál Oberfrank.

The Laboratory will also present its HTR and OCR projects, including the award-winning handwriting recognition program capable of reading János Arany’s manuscripts, recipient of the Social Innovation Award in 2024.

Other interactive demos include the Laboratory’s text and document simplification tools, as well as Racka, a compact, Hungarian-language model designed to run efficiently on everyday computers. Another new research project will demonstrate how students’ essays can be used to assess reflective thinking skills.

The Science Expo, held in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, is a flagship event of the Year of Hungarian Science. Over three days, visitors can experience hands-on experiments, interactive exhibitions, family-friendly programs, and inspiring talks by young science ambassadors.

This is where science steps out of the laboratory – and where digital heritage meets the future.

Admission is free!
