The National Laboratory for Digital Heritage (DH-Lab) is pleased to announce that, in collaboration with the Information Technology Directorate and the Faculty of Informatics of Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), and with the support of the National Research, Development and Innovation Fund, it has commissioned a new high-performance server optimized for artificial intelligence tasks.

This new system represents a significant milestone in Hungary’s research on artificial intelligence and digital cultural heritage, providing computing power several orders of magnitude greater than its predecessor, the A100 GPU server, which has been in operation since 2021.

The new server is equipped with eight NVIDIA H200 GPUs, high-capacity memory, and state-of-the-art hardware, with a total value exceeding HUF 120 million. Although the machine is physically located at the ELTE Savaria University Centre in Szombathely, it is accessible remotely to researchers and students from anywhere in the country.

The new system will serve a wide range of research and development purposes, including:

  • Development of chatbots capable of processing scientific and cultural data

  • Running, comparing, and fine-tuning large language models (LLMs)

  • Building agent systems for processing visual and textual data

  • Text simplification and interpretation of cultural heritage documents

The aim of this development is to enable DH-Lab to effectively support projects related to digital humanities, historical and cultural heritage research, as well as to promote the international-level study and teaching of artificial intelligence.
