On 6 November 2025, another event in the “Treasure at Hand” series of the HUN-REN ARP project took place at the Szekfű Gyula Library of the Faculty of Humanities, Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE). The discussion focused on the future of the relationship between repositories, education, and research.

The roundtable participants – Krisztina Egri (Head Librarian, Faculty of Social Sciences, ELTE), Tibor Móring (Research Support Librarian, ELTE University Library and Archives), and Gábor Palkó (Head of Department, Department of Digital Humanities, ELTE Faculty of Humanities; Head of National Laboratory for Digital Heritage) – shared their insights on how repositories can become key components of the interconnected system of research and education. The discussion was moderated by Tamás Scheibner, lecturer at ELTE’s Institute of Hungarian Literature and Cultural Studies.

The participants agreed that a repository is far more than a mere storage space for research data: it is the “digital heart” of the university. It makes scholarly achievements visible, facilitates knowledge sharing, and forges new connections between researchers, students, and society at large. As noted during the discussion, repositories are expected to become key platforms in the future for scientific communication, education, and evaluation systems alike.

The event offered both university instructors and students the opportunity to reflect together on the changing methods of research and research support in the humanities, as well as to reconsider the role of the university in light of evolving digital infrastructures.
